What I have been up to
I thought I would do a more general post of what I have actually been doing the last few weeks. It has all been a bit eclectic so I wanted to update you all and keep a bit of a record for myself of what I was up to during this time period.
To start with, if you follow my @rosiesramblings instagram you may have seen that I have taken a lot of walks along the Edinburgh canal. This is not just because it has been beautiful (the leaves have really been gorgeous), it is also because this is the best way to get to my dentist. One way or another a piece of metal that was meant to keep my front teeth together after having braces has been damaged without me having any idea. The metal bit doesn't look damaged to the eye but by nature if damaged it causes your teeth to move in the wrong direction. Which, to my surprise, had happened to my teeth. So mainly based on aesthetics I have decided to bite the bullet and start Invisalign. It will take around 10 weeks so I hope my teeth will be back to their regular look by the time my course starts. Everyone keep their fingers crossed…
A lot of my time has been unfortunately spent at work… which has been fine. But that is the word for it sadly, it has been just fine. Some shifts are better than others but with colleagues all being 5+ years older than you it is hard to relate and make friends outside of work. For the most part the customers have been great though with a lot of tips to take home. On the other hand the juice machine has broken with no obvious answer as to why. My favourite shifts were the ones where I was sent to the back room to make the juice so it is a big loss for me (sad that this is what I am upset about). To be completely honest I have started a countdown on my notes app and it is now less than 10 weeks till I stop woohoo.
Now speaking of work I have to mention my recent bout of illness that did cross into my birthday too. What was terrifying about this was it happened at work… I probably was pushing myself a little bit with both work and social the week before but when my eyesight started to go fuzzy and my legs numb I did start to panic. I was so disoriented I managed to walk home with my apron from work still on. This all ended up being a migraine that lasted about a week. Which was the week of my birthday itself and celebrations which was a real shame. Especially as on my actual birthday I was really really ill with physically being sick part of the fun. Having not had a migraine for around 6 years (since school) it was a scary time and I am still trying to figure out why it happened. I most likely will never know why however it was a wake up call to look after myself.
My birthday celebration apart from the illness was actually a really fun time. I had some friends over on one of the days where I felt a lot better for a painting night which was great fun. It was so nice to have most of my friends all in one place. As well as this I was able to have one of the first Sunday roasts of the season with my whole family and boyfriend which was great. My actual birthday was a good day too for the most part with a lovely brunch to start and an autumnal walk. Yes the evening was a bit shit to be honest with the sickness but it was still nice to have a day with my parents with limited pressure to have the best day ever. It simply was just a really lovely day which I am very happy to take (even if there was some illness).
Especially in the last week or so I have finally made some progress with finding a placement. Don’t ask how many emails with the same subject lines I have sent in the last week. However I have got a few emails back with some potential placement options which is really exciting. I also now know I am doing the right thing because of this excitement. The most promising lead is to work in a radio station which I have kinda always wanted to do since I was a kid. So fingers crossed that goes ahead. I am also hoping that I will get to the stage where I have some options so I can maybe dip into a few different organisations and pick and choose where to write. This is all very tentative but I am super excited about it. All of the emails did come at once as well so I did have to take myself on a walk to calm down before I responded (probably the best idea).
Lastly I have also been still reading but more so been cracking into my online course. It has been really interesting and I am still hoping it will put me a little bit ahead or at least in the mindset for the course in February. Hopefully…
Sending lots of love on this dreary November Tuesday
